The Home Of The Paranormal In West Wales

Hello again faithful viewers of PB,

it's now been a fortnight since our amazing investigation deep underneath an 18th century haven fortification and it's time to really discuss how the investigation went and, more importantly, what happened.

You're all hopefully more than familiar with the online videos by now; i want to discuss in depth the phenomena we've caught and whether or not I think it's of paranormal origins.

Now for some background on Hakin Fort/ Fort Hubberstone. Construction began circa 1858 and ended in 1863 on the large battery opposite Fort Popton on The Haven, the fort was armed with eleven guns in case-mates, eight in an open battery above, with another nine in an open flank battery to ensure it could help prevent any naval invasion of the strategically important welsh waterway. It also has a D-shaped barracks complex to the rear that hasn't yet been investigated by us so we won't mention it for the remainder of this summary.

Abandoned after WWI it was re-opened in WWII to house American GI's and for use as an air raid shelter by the local populous and as a storage warehouse. I think it's fair to say it would definitely have seen some very tense nights as the Luftwaffe bombed Pembroke Dock and the surrounding areas. The GI's would have been in a strange land, isolated from their families while mentally preparing themselves for Operation Overlord and the D-Day landings in Normandy; while ammo and armour was being shipped in to help prise "Fortress Europe" from the hands of The Third Reich and Adolf Hitler.

At school I can remember hearing almost weekly tales of the Fort being a battleground for two warring ghosts who were responsible for dragging kids into tunnels and being thoroughly unpleasant to anyone who ventured inside, leading to the need for an exorcist to call by. We can't be 100% positive of these rumours as they are based on hearsay and Chinese whispers. It's clear from some items we stumbled across that the Fort has been used for underage drinking, drug use and, more worryingly for me, ritualistic purposes; although we can't be certain whether this is negative or cleansing for the area.

Aside from a few children breaking bones by taking tumbles from the battlements the only other major event I can trace is a Lt Walter being murdered by a Doctor Alder in a drunken Brawl in 1875. Allegedly the Doctor was let off without any punishment as the forces were in need of all the medical knowledge they could get their hands on....

Now to the video of the investigation, the team were in very good spirits and we ventured into the Fort with a totally open mind and the mindset of "at least we'll have some fun". After the introduction the first "phenomena" captured is an Orb-like light about 1:35 into the video. It could be of paranormal background as there were no bugs and, being quite cold and damp, there was no noticeable-to-the-eye dust.

I began to feel a bit on edge as we ventured into the catacombs of tunnels, however with it being very cramped and rubbish strewn it's easy to understand why. As previously described, the Fort was very damp which lead to drips in areas exposed to the air.

Now for the most impressive phenomena of the whole night in my opinion; what we're calling "The Ping Pong Ball". Around 3 minutes in I stand looking down a stretch of corridor with the camera. From left to right an object flies and you can hear a hollow bouncing sound similar, we believe, to a ping pong ball. Now, i can specifically vouch that all team members were behind me and the phenomena went totally unnoticed by myself until the editing of the footage. I've had various discussions with the team about this and no-one can offer me a reasonable explanation for the thrown object.

We then ventured into the "Vault" in the tunnels where the object appeared to have been thrown from. During the relocation we seemed to constantly hear noises far away like talking/murmuring or walking. When we entered the vault we turned our torches off, this was to get used to the ambient sounds and to give any spirits chance to converse. During this time we could hear shuffling and footsteps and the team started to certainly feel a presence.

The we started asking for interaction from the spirits haunting Hakin Fort, oddly during this asking out nothing seemed to happen except more male talking which could have been an echo of my voice. The we heard a footstep next to Siobhan which seems initially unexplainable as there was no water damage or drips.

Then we fired up the EMF meter, it fluctuated initially and then we captured another Orb on screen in the top right at 8:40. We returned to asking out and hopefully caught some of the distant murmuring on camera and a footstep if you turn the volume up. The vault certainly felt spooky and we seemed to be experiencing something in the inky darkness.

We heard the distant footsteps again and then Felicity reported hearing a sigh at 1:09 in Part II. This could have been paranormal but later on i yawned and, due to the vaulted ceilings and acoustics, Felicity believed it came from a corner entirely opposite to me so this can be reasonably explained i think.

at 2:52 into Part II comes a very clear recording of a footstep, 2 of the team are on camera and i was stood next to Felicity so i can again vouch that no team members are stepping in order to make that noise, this marks a change in the teams mood as after clearly hearing that footstep we begin to suspect the only noises may be from other people who have ventured into the crumbling fort and then go to check.

Then at 6:00 minutes into Part II we begin a mini-seance in the darkness of the fort and ask the spirits who may be present to make themselves known. During this seance, team member Mike was very twitchy as it was his first seance, the rest of us were, i feel, level headed and reasonable throughout. Again we heard sounds far away but nothing particularly of note was captured on film during this attempt to contact the spirits that linger in the lower part of Fort Hubberstone. Towards the end of Part II myself and Siobhan heard a voice from behind me but i don't believe it was caught on film. We felt a variety of cold breezes but again this could have been merely a simple breeze and nothing that showed paranormal communication.
